Week 9 No 22 Net Library

Give me the real thing anytime. I found it a bit limiting in the fiction area and more geared towards business and technology. I did like the amount of study guides it had on fiction which would be good for teens as these can be hard to come by in print form.

Week 9 No 21 Search Tools

I found this hard at first but got the hang of it in the end. I got my Library Podcast from

Google as yahoo did not have any with rss. Atlantic City Free Library podcast site is very well set out no hidden menus like Zoo writer. It is very user friendly

Week 9 No 23 My Thoughts

It has been a big tech learning curve, I have learnt heaps as you can tell by my username being newbe2this. One of the main things I enjoyed learning was how to down load images as we get asked how to do this all the time by patrons. It has given me more confidence in dealing with patrons computer problems. I am a little sad that it is coming to an end as I have really enjoyed it I will keep up with myspace and flickr.

No 20 You Tube

I love You Tube it is very user friendly This Clip is from a show that was on TV 2 called Balls of Steel where comedians would go show they had nerves of steel by playing pranks on the British public a bit like smile your on camera. We have one on one computer classes at my library what we call infoskills and little video clips on how to use the web site or catalogue or set up email would be great.

Week 8 no19 web 2 awards

I went into 3 of them on the short list

Flickr which came 1st in the Photos & Digital images category which I think is very deserving as I love it & could spend hrs looking at peoples favorite photo's. It is very user friendly

PeerTrainer came 1st in the Health Category which is mainly for people who want to find a health group to join or start one, but I liked Medstory better as that looks at all aspects of Health. You just have to type in a health problem and it tells you the symptoms to the medical treatment you can get to what to do to avoid getting it.

I did enjoy looking at some of the names of the health groups in PeerTrainer I clicked on S and there are groups from slim for Life to strong - minds and bodies, but the most interesting was Serene Succulent Sixties something to look forward to in my old age

Week 8 no18 Zoho Writer

I had a look at zoho writer I like the way there are no hidden menus every thing is there, and I loved the way when you have finished your doc you can email it straight out to who you have to without having to send it to your email or having to save it to a disk.

Google docs
I can see why students or anyone studing would like this as being able to look or work on the same assignment without having to be in the same place would be a great time saver because when it comes to students time is something they do not have alot of.

Week 7 No 17 sandbox favourite bog

I Added my blog to the favorite blogs page. It was interesting going into peoples blogs that were listed. I had tried to do this exercise last week before the password was up so found it a bit frustrating at first, once it was up it was as easy as 123.

It would be great if our Lib web site had something like this that the patron's could use.

Week 7 No 16 wiki

From what I have seen a wiki is alot like a fitch and a blog, where you can write about a subject and save it as a draft and publish it when you are finished and anyone can add to it. I do not think I would use it myself but it would be good if we could get our Akzone kids as they could write about their favioute books and see what other kids their age say about the books they like. They would be good for Patrons who espeacially into the local history of the area they live in.

One thing that is frustating about wikies is that if someone is looking at or editing the wiki you want to look at you can't get into it.

Week 6 no 15 Library web 2.0

I liked what Rick Anderson said in Away from Icebergs about how Libraries had the monopoly of power in the information market in the era when information was only in print form, but the Internet and web 2.0 has opened that market right up and we need to use tools like web 2.0 and blogger and Rss feeds to bring our information to our public so they do not go alse where for it as they will if we not not.

We also need to make sure that our services are user friendly and do not require much training eg( like just a click here & there it is or it is done), not a long list of intructions.

We need our patrons to have more say in what they want not assume to always know what they what.

Week 6 technorati

I got 92,048 results for a key word search on web 2.0 then realized it was learning 2.0 & got
4,973 results and 718 for Bogs search. You get everything and anything when you do the general search as I did with people commenting on the changing nature of information, to someone calling themselves silicon florist taking about a book called knitting 2.0.

When I did the blog search I came across a blogger called Marys/ramblings who is a Librarian in Melbourne and by the looks of her blog she is doing web 2.0 and she is finding a lot of the web sites very American as am I. One thing I like about bloging is you get to see what other people from different parts of the globe are saying and thinking.

Week 6 no 13 tagging in Del.icio.us

Del.icio.us

I can see why some people would like it as another way to keep track of their favorite sites, but it is a bit like favorites to me and Rss . I would not use it as you can see by my blog name I am new to all this and I have just a few sites I like to go into, and I just google them or just click on my favorites depending on what computer I am on at the time.

Week 5 no 12 Rollyo

I found Rollyo a bit frustrating at times, it was a lot like news feeds and favorites in the way you select the sites you want but not as easy to select them. Why have peoples profiles on the site when you cannot go into them.

Week 5 no 11 library catalogue

I quite liked this online book group web site, I enjoyed listing my favourite bks
and I can see how people would enjoy connecting with other people who enjoy the same
bks and to see what they got out of it and sometimes others pick up things you missed.

Week 5 no 10 image generator

http://67.166.78.61/rendered/cooltext68716649.gif

I found it easy to make this image as it is a bit like making a template but the hard part was trying to save it to my blog and I was lucky that one of my team mates had already done it.

I also had a look at the fd toys one that is on Flicker and had a look at a few peoples favourite images which was fun.

Week 4 No 9 news feeds search tools

I did a search for Rugby and Elections on each of these Rss search tools

Feedster

With the rugby search I got 9 pgs with info from rugby results to how much you can sell your rugby tickets for to what the South Africans were having for lunch.

With the election search I got 9 pgs as well & on the 1st pg something on singer John Mayer and how it was his 30th a how he waxes his legs. I also found out that America may have to put up with another Bush at the helm for another 4yrs as his younger bro who is a senator is running for president for the Repugs ( Republicans).

I thought this one was ok but looks like it picks up things that are not directly related to the topic and it just had a seach box no subject headings

Topix.net

I liked the most becase you could put your town and country in the seach box and just find out what was happing in your corner of the world plus it had subjest headings.

Syndic8.com

I did not like this one at all very confusing and very American I clicked on sports and got 66 american only sports.

Techno

Would be my 2nd favioute, I like the way it tells you how old the information is and it was good to read about the 1st Indian womens Potitical Pary (UWF) United Womens Front. ( about time)

Week 4 No 8 Rss Feeds

I enjoyed this one more than I thought, especially as the first bit joining up with bloglines was very quick and easy & you just had to click on the feeds you wanted, I ended up with 10 they are listed below.

Rss Feeds would be great for libraries especially in the community libraries that have the Akzone after school programme. As the kids that live in these area's do not usually have access to the Internet and it would be a great help for us with answering there homework. they are a great time saver.

No 7 week 3 Technology

Digital Cameras are fantastic as they are a tool that can connect us via sites like flickr to anyone in the world. I really like browsing at different peoples profiles on flickr u could easy spend hrs on it. I like the the different things you can do to just one photo eg cards.

Flicker and Big Cats

week 3 Flicker

I really enjoyed exploring flicker and looking at the different profiles it is a good site for people who love to take heaps of photo's of one thing eg family, gardening, travel. I personally love to look and collect pictures of Big cats eg tigers, cheetahs . This picture is of a cheetah at a wildlife park in South Africa 30 mins from Johannesburg where you can stay as it has hotel accommodation available.

Week 2

Social Networking

I found myspace's homepage way more inviting visually compared to bebo and facebook, and I liked the way you can see what myspace has avaiable at a glance where as with bebo and specially facebook you have to search more. Bebo really caters for the young teen market where as myspace and facebook is more for
people 20 and up specially with company's advertising
with them.
hi I am very new to bloging so found it abit confusing at 1st as I am an emailer.
Now that I am all set up I am starting to enjoy it more which took more than 15mins
